Hi there,  We are new also, but with Mel's book I think we will do great!  
You too!  We made our boxes out of cedar and we lined the bottoms with 
hardware cloth. Here are a few suggestions - Try and visualize your end 
product -- what are you going to plant, how are you going to keep it watered, 
might you want to extend your growing season with a sun frame or a cold 
frame.  Think about these things and again, try and visualize the end product 
of each stage.  You don't want to finish your boxes, fill them with dirt and 
then realize that you forgot to put in a place for your soaker hose.  Good
