First Lady's were the best home grown tomato I've ever tried, but
I don't have that much experience... They were extremely sweet, sort
of firm, somewhat juicy but not mushy - more meaty. They kept well
both on the vine and after picking, but especially after picking -
we picked all the green ones that were left sometime in December and
pulled out the plants, but we didn't finish those green-turned-red
and ripe tomatoes until last week or so! We enjoyed them most when
just eaten like an apple or sliced in salads or sandwiches, but
since we didn't grow any paste tomatoes, we also had so many that
we made tomato sauce, tomato salsa, and froze some quartered. I'm
not into canning, so don't know if they do that well. We did use
them to make tomato sauce and it was very good tomato sauce, but
I think a paste tomato would be better...
