Thanks to those who posted about the mysterious disappearance of my
cucumber plants. (I lost 2 of 4 plants within 2 days).
Here in SE Ohio we have had some monstrously hot weather for the past week
(heat indexes in the 100-110 range). My **remaining** :-) cucumber plants
are being grown vertically on trellis and were doing great. However over
the past few days I've noticed that about 95% of the blooms seem to be just
drying and shriveling up, including the little stalk the bloom forms on.
So I know it's not the natural "death" process of the bloom itself that I'm
seeing. I'm watering as much as needed (I think).
With the plants trellised, the blooms seem to be more exposed to the sun.
Is the heat and/or sun causing this or can anyone offer any other
explanations/solutions?
TIA for all of your wonderful wisdom and tidbits of advice for this novice
gardener!!!!
