FIRST TOMATO

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Hi All!
I am getting ready to go out and pick the first tomato (cherry) and cucumber
(8 inches) of the season. I've been waiting all day to pick them just before
dinner! I started pretty late I guess for this area (Zone 8) but things seem
to be going pretty well.
About 10 blossoms on the Eggplants. I think I just figured out what is eating
my summer squash and am squishing (squashing?)madly. There are about 10 cukes
within a few days of harvest and at least 7 large tomatoes. The zuchini has
taken all of the 3x3 space it was alloted and is theatening the Limas.
Spaghetti squash is blooming and hot pepper and green peppers have fruit.
Bush beans have actual beans now, not just blossoms. They are really looking
crowded in the 9 per spacing. They have completely covered all of the herbs
that I have growing in the cinder blocks holes. Not sure I'll try those
again. The 2 blocks of corn are both doing great. They are about 2.5 ft tall
but no sign of corn yet. Hope I didn't wait too late.

Pole beans are very sluggish still, I hope they pick up. I also planted some
of the pole beans in one of the corn blocks. I will add squash this week.
Sunflowers have all sprouted on the side of the yard, away from my garden but
surrounded by wildflowers. I loved the idea of Morning Glory's and will add
them too.
Has any one tried planting strawberries in the fall for a spring harvest?
Otherwise I'm afraid it gets too hot here. My whole garden gets shade in the
afternoon from some pines so maybe it won't burn up by July!
This is really addictive!
