I suppose you could use a layer of shredded newspaper or some brown
leaves, some spoiled hay, old straw, barn bedding, a bag of cedar mulch
that you could use for a gerbil cage, peanut shells, sweet gum
pods......browns are browns and they're all interchangeable, don't get
hung up on the peat moss aspect. If you don't want to use peat moss use
something else.
IMHO,
It took eons and eons to make the peat bogs, they started long before
man was on the planet. I suppose that eons and eons from now we too
shall be added to someone's garden because we shall compost by then too.
