fencing/screening critters

I have 3 square-foot beds, each 4 by 16 ft. raised beds. They are not set
in one four-square garden area, but instead tucked in separate locations in
the sunny patches of a backyard with moving shade from tall tulip poplar
trees.
I am trying to figure the most efficient and economical way to do critter
control around the separate beds. Rabbits and woodchucks are the common
garden visitors, and maybe deer occasionally.
Because the beds aren't in one common area, fencing would require many
linear feet. Plus, with individually fenced raised beds, access becomes a
pain.
The wire cages suggested by Mel would be costly.
I was thinking of laying light plastic screening, like deer screening, over
plastic pipe hoops.
Would that be sufficient barrier to marauding mammals?
How fine does the mesh have to be to keep out rabbits?
I would appreciate any other suggestions. Thanks. --Ted
