Re: Sqft Garden Log - Week of 5/1/00

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Hi to Ann in Colorado and to all sq footers! As a Coloradoan myself,
I am also pleased with the weather lately. We had 90 degrees here
yesterday. This is my first year with sq foot gardening. I have 2
4x4 raised beds made from redwood. I have planted two tomatoes in
Walls of Water and they are growing well. I have one cantalope and
one watermelon plant in Walls of Water, too. Thought I'd give them a
try. I planted, by seed, beets, mesclun, peas, chard, radishes and
nasturtiums. The beets, radishes, chard and mesclun have begun to
sprout and I run out every morning to check on them! Cute little
buggers! I was a bit worried about the heat yesterday-the lettuce
wilted but popped back with the cool of evening. I think I will get
it in earlier next year if possible.
I also planted mustard plants and two broccoli plants which I grew
inside. They are beginning to grow quite well, too. I hope the peas
make it. I haven't had fresh peas since I was a child. Anyway--that
is the scoop from Parker, Colorado.
I am at 6,000 feet here in SE Denver. I believe Ann is closer to
8,000 or 9,000 (?).
I also ordered a BioStack Composter from Smith and Hawken. We are in
a tract home and have restrictions on what can be (seen) in our
yards. Lorri-Zone 5, mountain
