Hello Everyone!
I had a very strange experince at Lowe's here in Dallas, Texas. I asked to
buy a large quantity of vermiculite: you know, to have for 1/3 of my 16 sq.
ft. bed. The sales person acted like I had asked to buy a great big bag of
pot or something! She said that it was a ridiculous waste of money, and she
was very emphatic about it. She had never heard of square foot gardening,
saying that it sounded "kooky and gimmicky" to her. So I left and bought a
small bag of vermiculite somewhere else. ha ha.
Anyhow... here's my point: The only bag that I could find (and there was
only one!) cost about 5 dollars for 8 quarts. So I've got two questions,
really:
-Does anyone have good ideas for finding a cheap resource for verm.?
-And, was there any truth to what the mean lady at Lowe's said about verm.
(especially in Texas)?
Thanks!
BTW, can we post pictures to this list? I took some great ones of the new
bed we planted this weekend! :-) And guess what else? It is my very first
garden of my own -- ever! Hooray!
Jean
