Try a nursery supply or ask at a local garden center. It is available at
many Phoenix AZ garden centers in large bags - look like 4-5 cu ft. I have
also seen the large bags at one of our Home Depots. It was a little hard to
find back in the 1980s because of the asbestos contamination scare but seems
to be more available again. Its use as sound insulation in the walls of
buildings was discontinued in 1984.
Can't comment about Texas soil's special needs for vermiculite. But I would
suggest that the percentage of edible vegetables grown in vermiculite
amended-soil is miniscule.
