Plant cloves about 4 inches apart each way. You can dig your garlic in
late summer when the leaves turn yellow, and if you like, immediately
replant some cloves for next year.

That's baloney. You're lucky they're sprouting. Use your finger to gently
push soil away from the tops of the cloves. Did you separate them into
cloves? I hope you did.
