Original post: Can someone advise me of ideal compost material I can purchase and add to soil? I live in north Texas and consider cotton burr compost to be my ideal store bought compost. Peat moss, "imported from Canada", used to be my number one choice. Cotton burr compost does a better job of breaking down my clay. Its not a great mulch, but I use some as mulch in the off season anyway because the doves love the stuff. The mulch quickly warms up in the sun and the doves like to snuggle up in it. It used to be that I could only find cotton burr compost at a local organic nursery. Within the last year, the major nursery chains (not Home Depot) have start carrying the bags. I'm not for sure, but cotton burr compost might only be available in the south at the moment. If the product shows up in your area, I recommend giving it a try. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
