The Schimmerg Stoo & Greens I got from Sue Boyle in Wellington came from
Koanga Seed Co. in NZ. and they were listed as a NZ heirloom. The plants
are huge--pushing seven feet and still growing. They are loaded with
fruits. I've picked a dozen already. The first ones where the size of a
large fist and weighed about 4 oz. each. They were slightly hollow, but
were really more filled out. The flavor was excellent and they are
gorgeous--reddish-orange with amber and green streaks and splotches. Now
that the soil and air temps have warmed, the newest fruits are bigger. I'd
estimate that I will be harvesting fruit in the 8-12 oz. range soon.
The plant is fairly disease-resistant, except to Early Blight. It's all
over the bottom of plants. However, the plant's vigor doesn't seem to be
affected. Hope this helps. Another NZ heirloom tomato Sue sent is Gurnsey
Island. The plant is totally bug and disease resistant, because it stinks
to the high heavens. But, there are over 150 fruit on it now
that average about 3 oz. each. Some have ripened and the flavor is
very much like Brandywine.
