thrips

My roses have bugs, too. The first mass of blossoms were plentiful and
gorgeous, but this last 'round' of blooming produced tight buds with little
to no open blossoms. Someone suggested to look closely and I'd see the bugs
on them. Sure enough, something like a little pale green cricket, or stink
bug was on them. Only about 1/8" long and leggy, but there were enough to
hurt the plant. I was told this was thrips.
Any suggestions on what it was or how to get rid of them?
