Re: So how did my garden grow in '97?

A garden from the for north.

This was my first year gardening in Alaska and my first year using the SQFT
method. I started small as I was gone most of the summer, 1 4x4 plot and
some containers. We are located in a bush village along the Yukon River.

Lettuce did well and had 2 1/2 plantings. The 3rd planting froze but we did
get a few leaves.

Radishes did great and had 2 plantings.

Swiss Chard did okay but not much flavor.

Spinach went to seed and the second planting did not mature.

Carrots did okay, small but flavorful.

Contianer cucumbers and peppers did not do well.

Plan to add several more beds next year and try squash and beans. Others in
the area had good luck. The local wild berries were plentiful so spent my
gardening time picking berries.

I will now have to look at the seed catalogs and dream as the snow is
falling outside. Happy Gardening! Laurie
