Dear Bill,
Feel better after your little tantrum? I hope so. You do seem to have
quite a few of these outbursts. Let's dissect your post, shall we?
<< since your test is
faulty you could not expect to achieve relevant results. There are books
that can explain the scientific method to you, I recommend that you find
one and read it. There are certain requirements of a good test which if
not used, invalidate the test.>>
What test is that? I never claimed I was making a scientific test. All the
methods that I use and/or suggest to people to use are taken from organic
gardening mags and books and have been tested in places such as Exeter
University in Britain, U Cal at Davis etc. These places have the ways and
means to do truly scientific testing, which will be far more accurate than
any test you may have performed in your back yard garden, no matter how many
books you may have read on the "scientific method". To expend my time and
energy trying to replicate their tests before posting to a gardening LS just
so I will satisfy some pseudo-scientist's idea of what is or isn't legitimate
is idiotic, a waste of my time and garden space. A truly perspicacious
gardener will be able to judge whether or not something is working for him or
her.
<< I am sure you would not want one case of a High Pesticide gardener
having a better harvest than you to be the 'test' of whether your method
was better or not. >>
This is true. However, I also belong to an organic gardening LS and nobody
on that LS has reported the mostly poor results that I have seen so far on
this LS. Does that mean that there won't be better results posted here? No.
But I do remind you that we had a drought here in Mass. this year and my
garden still did very well with very few pest problems. Again, I would refer
you to studies done by Larry Phelan Ph.D on why plants grown in organic soil
repel pests and are better able to absorb the correct amount of nutrients for
photosynthesis. If, through showing the results of my harvest this year I am
able to get some people on this LS at least thinking about changing to an
organic approach to gardening, then I will have done all I had intended,
which is a damn sight more than you will get with the vituperative and
insulting responses you occasionally post here.
<< in fact I have not
used 'chemicals', meaning synthisized pesticides, in mine. If I had, I
would have gotten a larger harvest this year since a little SevinDust
would have kept off the cucmber worms and Squash Vine Borers. >>
Congratulations for not using chemicals. I had Squash Vine Borers and
still had a bountiful squash harvest without the use of SevinDust. You could
also claim that if you had attracted the right beneficials, tachinid flies
and toads to kill these pests, you would have gotten a larger harvest.
<<This is why I object to stupid arguments, not because
I disagree with the results, but because if I endorse sloppy methods,
that endorsement may come back to bite me.>>
See the above part of this post pertaining to where I get my organic
gardening ideas and where and how those ideas are tested. I'd be very
surprised if the methods these people use are sloppy.
<<Can't seem to find their way out of the Sixties",
Earth-Loving/Human-Hating Kazinski-ites are doing Organic Gardening.
That's not a way to win folk over. Suggesting alternatives is one thing,
Haranguing folk is another.>>
I like the last part of your post here, perhaps you should take it to
heart.
<< you go on back to the dugout.>>
No, but I will go back out to my garden to bring in even more tomatoes,
peppers, beans, eggplants. You keep up with your "scientific" research and
keep us informed of the results. I'll keep growing food for my family,
friends and neighbors.
Later.
Jim K
