Re: Soil Amendments

This subject should prompt much response, because there are advocates
from A to Z. Mel intended that his super mix be applied on top of your
existing soil, after first digging the existing soil to help drainage.
That is the ideal, and most costly way, to go.

I was gardening quite successfully before I started using the SQFT
method, just using the dirt that God gave me, without adding anything. I
now compost, and that is all that I add to my existing soil using the
SQFT method. So much depends on the type and condition of the existing
soil you are blessed (or cursed) with. There is no "one size fits all"
answer to the soil question.

If plants grew well in your soil before SQFT, they will continue to grow
using it. I suggest that you use the best soil that you can afford. But
you don't have to be rich to make use of the SQFT method.
