Thank you, Christy, for the information.  I found 4 sprouted seeds 
when I cut the stockings apart, all attica.  I couldn't figure out how 
to hold the tiny seeds with their roots downward, so I simply laid 
them on their sides on the soilless mix and covered them up.  I assume 
the roots will naturally grow downward on their own.

And thank you, Bob, for the background on attica's native climate.  
Looks like they'll be pot plants here to be overwintered inside ... 
assuming I can keep them alive and growing now that the seeds have 
sprouted.

It really is exciting finding these tiny white roots!
