Re: Iris pseudacorus

Dear Dennis,

Iâm the editor of the Region 2 AIS newsletter.  May I have your permission to mention this message contents and copy the links in our current issueâabout to go out TODAY!  But I agree that itâs important to inform our readers; I didnât know myself that pseudacorus was considered a weed.  Iâm more ignorant than some, I guess.

It appears as though this applies to hybrids of pseudacorus as well, though the law allows for the state to exempt specific cultivars provided that they're sterile or that scientific analysis suggests they won't become invasive. So the sterile Eyeshadows may be allowed, but not tetraploid pseudatas or something like 'Holden Clough' that regularly produces viable seed. For the moment, the practical application is that you don't have to get rid of your plants, but you can't give them to others or allow them to escape to the wild.

I just saw this on Facebook.  As of yesterday (March 10) Iris pseudacorus is one of the 69 new plants banned from commerce in New York State.

I'll update the SIGNA website accordingly.
