Re: iris borer, Iris tectorum

They heavily infested my large spurias a few years ago, and (unsurprisingly) I've also had them in Iris dichotoma. I think Iris pseudacorus manages to be invasive by escaping infestation in deeper water. Since the borer is native, I don't take any measures other than good dead leaf cleanup in late winter/early spring, and vigilance during the growing season. I just tried a prescribed burn over one section of irises for the first time yesterday, and that seems like another promising way to control the overwintering eggs.

I have had them infest Siberians, too, with not such large rhizomes.  The worst thing I ever grew for borers was I. domestica (Belamcanda).

When I lived in Kentucky, I had Iris Borers to infest some clumps of Blackberry Lily, now known as Iris domestica.  Also, in one especially bad season, one got into a Daylily.  However, I believe it is extremely rare fore them to attack Daylilies.

The borer can infest any iris with rhizomes big enough to support it's life cycle. I had them appear in a couple of a couple Louisiana hybrids I was not monitoring. I read somewhere borers can infest daylilies but can't recollect the source.

It is.  I had many clumps at the side of the house.  All gone now but a coupe pieces after they were done.  The clump had been there for two years before they attached and it looked worse than any TB infestation I have ever had.

Does anyone know if Iris tectorum is susceptible to iris borer? And if
so, like to what degree compared to beardeds?

Thanks,
