In 2004 I bought a plant from Arrowhead Alpines labeled "Iris wattii
I-16 2000". It is actually Iris tectorum. I didn't notice it being
significantly different in size from Woolong; I'll make a point of
comparing them in the spring. Of course, it may well turn out to be
a different clone from yours.

I think, by accident, I may have found a tetraploid
tectorum. Two years ago I ordered Iris wattii from
Arrowhead Alpines. They sent a robust plant that bloomed
the first spring. Immediately i knew it was not wattii.
But it was so large and robust I did not recognize it as
tectorum. It was not until this spring that it settled
down a bit and realized it was tectorum that was larger
in all its parts. Since years ago I have a plant of a
white tetraploid tectorum from Sam Norris that turned
out not to be cold hardy in Missouri, I have kept this
one in a pot and have just tried a piece outside this
fall. I am optimistic that I may have something great
for breeding. For years I have wanted to do some
hybridizing with the evansias and tectorum and tectorum
and beardeds. Now I may have found a key. I still would
like to find Iris wattii because crossing it with
tectorum could produce a hardy version of wattii Bob
