Hi Sandy,  My borer prevention involves cutting down the foliage in 
October... and although not 100% effective it certainly prevents 
major infestations.  This is the first time I've noticed borers in 
September though.

I feel pretty dumb, 'cuz I don't know what you mean by instar.  From 
the context, I'm guessing it has to do with life-cycle stages... such 
as borer caterpillars, and adult moths?

Anyway... I've had a few off-list responses confirming other people 
have 2 waves of borers.  Funny, though, that in 10 years of growing 
irises I never noticed it until now.
