AIS: AIS Online

Hie y'all...

Well that is about as close to the way they say it down here as I can get...

It is time to let some of the cats out of the bag and get some feedback
on some new AIS services.

At the Fall AIS Board meeting last year they authorized the creation of
some online databases for the AIS. I put together a small team of folks
to help get the prototype up and running and it is now ready for folks
to start putting it through its paces.

The first database is the electronic checklist database. our team
scanned and proofed the 1989 Checklist and I worked with Mallorn
Computing to put a search engine front end on the database. So you can
search the entire '89 registration daabase for a key word and you will
get a list of irises that have that keyword somewhere in it registration
entry. If you then click on an individula name you will see the complete registration.

The second database is a complete list of every name ever registered by
the AIS. Each entry also has the source book listed (e.g.1969 Checklist)
and any awards if any that the cv has won.

To be sure I need to do some cosmetic work on the presentation of the
information and provide a key to the meaning of some of the notations,
but it is a start.

We are working on the '79 checklist, and as soon as the '99 is ready for
print we will integrate it into the database as well.

Eventually there will be a $10 annual fee for access to these databases,
but for the moment they are free. So take a look at:
