Hi John,
(IMO) The check list data base query is a little deep for a casual
searcher and the Name query is a little light. It would be nice to have a
cross-link from the "Name" field of the Name DB result to the whole record
for that Iris from the Checklist DB, or a "year, hybridizer & color" query.
I'm not trying to be critical for it's own sake - I know how tricky getting
what you want from a DB is. I'm just postulating that the "average"
searcher most likely has a name or part of a name and wants to know who
made it, when, and what it looks like.
The example that I ran was to search "sunset" on the checklist side. Since
the results are returned alphabetically, the second entry is Alicia M due
to a Grandparent named Sunset Sail. I _DO_understand how valuable this is
for researching a lineage (or a rainy sunday afternoon) and it's a great tool.
When the same search is performed on the Name DB, every Iris with Sunset in
the name is returned (nice), but only the checklist date and type of iris.
It would be nice to have access to a "little" more information (like year,
hybridizer & color) without have to do a duplicate search in the other DB.
Big Job - Good Work John
Thanks!
