Re:pineappling

AIS published a little blue book called "Basic Iris Culture" and towards the
back of it there are a couple pages written about iris diseases, pests
etc--this book is great to sell to the public at shows and sales--along with
giving out the Bulletins.
There is no picture of pineappling--but this is what it says" Pineappling
must be mentioned as it is fairly common. The cause is unknown. It appears
as enlarged rhizomes, stunted leaves and short, distorted flowers. It may
be the result of injury, either mechanical or pathogenic during the early
development stage. Most often only the mother rhizome is affected and the
increases will bloom the following year".
In looking at the picture--I am not sure that this description of
pineappling and the picture are the same--but at least it should make you
feel better to know that it is common, and not totally destroying the
rhizome and every new one attached to it.
Carryl in western Montana-- zone 3/4--where it has been snowing for
days--and still is--heavy in the mountains and not sticking on the valley
floor--
