Our SDB's and other medians seem to have escaped freeze damage, too. Most of the damaged TB's are ones that we have had for several years. Some were divided three years ago and some two years ago. All of our new TB's last year were potted as we received them during the summer. Due to Dean's heart surgery the first week in September, they did not get put into the ground until very late (and then it was only because three wonderful LAIS members came out and planted them). I have not noticed any damage on them, but will check again tomorrow if and when it stops raining. I will have to put on my waders and go slogging out to the beds!
It is too early to tell if any of the TB stalks will be affected. Our peak TB bloom is normally May 15, so maybe they were not far enough along to get bitten. It will be interesting to see what happens.
We had a nice surprise today. Our first bearded iris blooms opened on SDB's JEWEL BABY and JUST A CROC. SMELL THE ROSES will open tomorrow. This is about a week later than last year's first bloom.
