Concerning fragrant irises:
Schreiner's has a special offer on the back of their catalogue --
10 fragrant irises for about $40.00.
Concerning Jade Jewels:
I seem to recall that someone asked about the availability of Jade
Jewels and I don't recall seeing an answer. Terry Aitken offers it
in his catalogue for $2.00 (I think that's the price). Incidentally,
one of his SDB introductions this year has Jade Jewels as its pod
parent. The picture on the front of his catalogue makes it look
lovely. I just got his catalogue a couple of days ago and it augurs
the spending of money!
Concerning my first year SDB seedlings:
These seedlings are from my first year of hybridizing and they are
continuing to bloom. I'm definitely (to my surprise) getting some
that will merit another look next year. I plan to keep all of them
for two years, because the experienced hybridizers all say that you
should not rely on what a plant looked like the first year.
Concerning bloom in my garden:
The MDBs and pumilas appear to have finished (they tend to start
blooming about the same time as the SDBS for me). Iris bucharica is
also finished. The SDBs are going full tilt. I have some arilbred
bloom and a lot of arilbred buds. The few (full) arils that I grow
seem to be growing well, but there are no signs of buds so far. My
first IB opened yesterday -- Rare Edition. I also have a few buds
on IBs, BBs and TBs. I hope that those of you in the snowy nether
regions start to get some iris bloom soon.
