Thank you, Arnold, I have a spray bottle full of insecticidal soap that
I'm spraying everywhere I see any evidence of the things. After eight
days of digging I'm just about to the end of my big west garden. I have
seen only a little of it there and no rot at all. Everything gets
dipped though. I want to get rid of those things.

Francelle: If those are mealy bugs, there are a couple of cheap,
simple, easy solutions. (No pun intended there!) You can get rid of
them with rubbing alcohol, which won't harm your iris at all, or
insecticidal soap. I think a spray of dishwasher detergent or a mild
soap like Ivory flakes or some such will do the trick, too. We've used
all these on house plants, and they've worked like a charm.
