That's what makes discussions using these sorts of terms so confusing.
There is no standard set of definitions, but everyone seems to assume we
all use these words the same way. I'll be happy to create a "standard"
"parts of the iris rhizome" diagram if the majority can agree on a
definition for each term. It sure would make these discussions easier to
follow.
