dry or wet?

I need help interpreting the books. Hopefully I will soon have
some spurias, an I. carthaliniae and an I. halophila, on my doorstep.
The general advice on spurias says to give them a well-drained soil,
but Mathew says carthaliniae grows in the "wet habitats in the southern
Caucasus" and halophila in "low-lying wet meadows, often along river
banks." My yard does have in it a wet meadow environment, one which
grows JIs just great, but in this last year with the wet spring tended
to encourage losses in bearded irises planted anywhere near it, outside
what I thought were its boundaries. It also has a reasonably well-drained
area, where bearded irises survived even this year pretty well and a few
named spuria hybrids have had mixed results. Where can I give these new
kids the best chance of success?
