Bobby: I agree with most of what you have said. I think hybridizers should be the primary source for their own irises. In some cases the don;t take photos. In searching for images for the spuria checklist Joe Ghio said no photographers here. Bur many hybridizers have another person who introduces their things or they have friend who provide photos for them. I think the important point is that the hybridizer endorse the image as being as representative as is possible. I see know reason that many people may be involved in the collection of photos but I do think it would be ethical to get a comment from the hybridizer especially if he didn't provide the picture.
I also have reservations about making these photo to tied to official registration. It makes it that much more difficult if AIS has to authenticate. I believe that each section is capable of doing a good job od creating and maintaining an archive and that laying any responsibility on AIS is a mistake. Both strategicaly and logisticly.
