Re: REF: Iris books

I don't mean to brag (! ! (<:) ) But! Ahem! Surprise! Due to the
thoughtfulness of a dear friend, I actually have , not only THE GUIDE TO
SPECIES, but also Graeme Grosvenor's IRIS, FLOWER of the RAINBOW which
includes many photos of U.S hybridizers The Guide, I found on rechecking
the color plates, has 4 irises listed as being in Afghanistan. It made me
wonder what has happened to them (among all the other tragedies). Another
dear friend gave me Koehlein's IRIS years ago.(will "oe" take the place of an
umlaut "o"?) Another, both Mollly Price and Jean Stevens' books. But the
piece de resistance of all. Both the Dykes GENUS IRIS, the original and the
reprint. No, I won't tell the names of the donors! A case of
self-preservation - don't want to dilute the gift-pool! But I will say that
not all donors are irisarians themselves, they just know what is a "safe"
and welcome gift!
Now that I have finished bragging, I'll say these books are fantastic - the
wealth of information is phenomenal, and I regret to say I have not absorbed
it all! Rosalie nr Baltimore, USA zone 7 where the weather can't make up
its mind whether it is really 5 or 8! ! ryfigge@aol.com
