Sounds like my pouring milk on house plants wasn't an original idea. Have
to admit I pour dish rinsings (very dilute) on them sometimes too. Saves
water, and seems to be great for the plants. No negative affects so far,
though I have to watch what's in the dish water (or the cats and dog start
digging in the pots). I certainly don't need the calcium from the milk (in
NM), but the other ingredients sound like great fertilizer. Some of the
house plants are in potting mixes, so even the calcium might be good for a
while (though there is already too much in the water). At first I
hesitated with the milk, because of the calcium, but it seems to be in a
form that doesn't bother anything. I even put it on African Violets now,
and you should see the flowers (by the way, keeping the leaves dry is a
myth, at least here, they get wet every day and sulk if I don't wet them -
but that's another subject).
As for Iris outside, I had problems with them quitting blooming after a
year or two when I had them in a sand yard, not a problem, and the powdered
milk may have been just the ticket.
