There is no scientific backing, only my observation over a few years. I have observed that once I get one pod to set, that additional pods seem to set more readily on that stalk than crosses attempted on an adjacent stalk. I could see that multiple pods may possibly decrease seed count in the later pods. I also have noticed that the size of the seeds did not appear to affect germination percentages for me. Some crosses where I kept comment that seeds were questionably viable have had very high germination.
