I use Cygon 2E, and when I use it properly and at the right times, it works
fairly good as a control. It is a systemic, but a fairly weak one as
systemics go. You have to spray at the right time. And the right time
depends on the weather. It is usually the first week of April here when TB
new growth is about 4". A 2d and 3d application 10 days apart is likely to
achieve the best results....cause if the timing of when the little borers
hatch is late, the lst week in April will miss them. If it gets really warm
in March I often will opt to do lst spray then. When I say "here" I am
talking about N. VA. In your area, of course, dates will be later. Borers
are a native American pest, and native only to Eastern half of U.S. (So
naturally they like the versicolors and virginicas too!). The people out
West don't have them at all, and with their cllimates are not likely to get
them. Another solution for borer control, if you live in the country, is to
not clean beds in the fall, then in early spring put dry straw over the beds
and set fire to them. This is very effective in controlling borer, and will
not hurt the irises. In the old days, this is what all the eastern US iris
growers did. Hope this helps, Clarence
