Im smiling a lot . We just went out to check nurseries and came up with
some gems. I bought a blooming I douglasiana & a Pacific Hyb.(not blooming)
that the label said was pink & yellow . The Hyb. has much longer leaves than
I doug. I hope it will bloom this year. :D also I got a book by Fritz Kohlein
on ,of all things, IRIS . It looks like it might be a good beginners book .It
has good photos. On pg.282 there is a photo of an iris I must grow .It is
I.laevigata Albopurpurea" It is white with fine spots of purple. The caption
Says " The blossom looks as if it were sprayed with Russian ink". What ever
Russian ink is. Ive planted the two iris in a plot of built up soil next to
the driveway .There are plenty of collected river rocks on the soil so I can
build planting pockets. They will get some shade from a Cal .lilac (
Ceanothus). Both Ceanothus and iris must have reduced summer water ,so they
should work well together. OOOOO!!!!!!!! This is so much fun. What do you
mean Im hooked
As I look through my new book I wonder if I can get rhizomes of I. Samariae,
I. iberica ssp.elegantissima
& I.susiana . I can see Ive already got a want list started. :D Just wait
till the catalogues come out
