Finally had a chance to look a your web-site. Very nicely
constructed, I'm interested as we hope to do one in the next year.
However I noticed that you had lost track of a considerable
number of your crosses because of tag failure. I have found that the easiest, if
not cheapest, way is to use 3x1" plastic twist ties that we label plants with. I
write on them with a garden marker. This tag the stays with the cross right up
to germination. So you don't have to write new tags for storing or soaking your
seeds etc. That tag just tags along with the seeds. If a cross fails I'll reuse
the tag for another cross on that plant or cross out everything and use the
other side with another (make sure the garden marker is nice and writing well).
So long as the tag is properly attached at the time of cross, and you regularly
check that it's not pushed off by the developing seed pod you have your seeds
identified for every stage of the first year.
