I received my Keppel catalog this last weekend and I have to say.WOW!!!
I was blown away. The color patterns and iris forms he is producing is
getting better and better!
How is he ever going to top himself next year???
Friendly Fire contains what Keith calls a change in beard color.mandarin red
with pinkish undertones. Where do you go from here with that? How would
one proceed? Line crossing or sib crossing would be my guess, but it will
be years before you get the results. I would imagine this is already being
done. Siblings of FF which have not been introduced yet will probably shed
more light on the subject.
Drama Queen has incredible form to it, even though there are those conical
standards everyone seems to be into these days. Still and all, what an
improvement!
Paris Fashion is described first and foremost in Keith's descriptions as
elegant. That was my exact thought when I first looked at the picture.
There is no denying that. Darn him.I am trying to get more irises that have
bright and bold colors.I have too many pastel and whites as it is, and then
he goes and introduces this one! To me, I look at the form and think
perfection. I just love it.
Venetian Glass is aptly named. I looked at the picture and smiled.for who
else but the registrar with so many years experience with names could have
found one to fit this iris so perfectly. And darn him again, another light
colored iris I want to add to the garden. I guess I will just have to switch
out some older ones, but some of them are my favorites.
Telepathy.FINALLY, and nicely formed luminata in the early midseason with
height. This one will actually grow here and bloom before it gets too hot.
So many of the luminatas I have grown bloom too late. I like the dart
extending down from the white zonal area on around the beard.
What made me go absolutely ape-crazy though is the picture just above
Telepathy of High Master. This is not a Keppel iris, but a Blyth '00 that I
have never seen before. I absolutely think it is fantastic! OF COURSE,
drat and curses, wouldn't you figure, the darned thing is a midseason-late
bloomer. Guess I will have to just get out my tweezers and make my own
early to midseason or midseason variety like it this spring!
