Glenn,
     The AIS started the snail mail Robins many years before anyone even 
though of Internet.  There is no problem with them running their own Robins.  
I am a member of one.
     Now, to try to answer about the e-mail Robins...   Once any society 
[AIS, AHS, ...] gets involved in any electronic forum, the Moderator ceases 
to run the list.  The Moderators have to answer to various committees within 
the society, and the result can be unpopular changes.
     There are people on the Official AHS Daylily mailing list that still 
talk about "the good old days" before the AHS affiliation was made because of 
the rules imposed, such as 1 message per day, and 55 total limit on the 
forum.  That 55 limit is almost never reached.
