In a message dated 98-01-10 07:02:20 EST, you write:
<< To dredge up an old topic - I am trying to learn more about heredity of
iris colors/patterns etc, and have checked the archived discussion of
the umbrata (big spot) pattern and can't find anything about whether
it's dominant or not....
Is the heredity of these patterns known?>>
Mike Lowe has done a good deal of work on the evolution of pattern and form in
the bearded irises. If you do not get a satisfactory answer to your question I
suggest you consider posting it again after his return to the list. As I
mentioned before, Mike is absent at the moment because his ISP went bankrupt.
He assures me he scans every posting and his research may cast light on your
question. IF his absence is very prolonged I shall send your post along to him
for his consideration.
