Hi Walter,

I wish our city would put in some feeding troughs.  The deer are in our yard 
every night and sometimes during the day.  They feed on Japanese iris blooms, 
daylily and lily buds (before they open), and, of course, their favorite 
hostas.  They pinch back the asters and we gave up trying to grow tulips many 
years ago because the buds always disappeared before we could see the blooms. 
 They step all over the lined out seedlings.  One winter they stripped all 
the chameacyparis and last winter they stripped the bark off a young spruce 
tree.  This year they will miss out on one of their favorites.  Because of 
late freezes, we have hardly any apples or pears on our many trees.  None of 
our neighbors have anything the deer are interested in--just grass and a few 
evergreens--so they make a bee line for our yard.  A friend recently put up 
an electric fence and that seems to be doing the job of keeping deer out of 
their hostas and other perennials.  We are thinking that may be the only 
solution for us, if the city allows them

By the way, I was disappointed that I didn't get a chance to meet you in 
Memphis.  Guess we were involved in different areas.
