I got lost somewhere in seed drying, Linda. We started with
bearded seeds and now it appears we have jumped to beardless.
There are different requirements for some beardless as I assume
John and Bob are talking about JI seeds in the literature you have.
I have planted just about every kind of iris seed there is and
find that JI and siberian are the easiest to germinate without any
fussy techniques. I am almost sure that the germination rate for
the above is almost always ninety to ninety-five percent.
I don't think you want to dry La or pseudacorus seeds at all. As
soon as the seed pods turn yellow, plant them. Some people
remove the corks and just plant the kernels. I ruin too many that
way so I just chip off a little of the corks.
To me dry is dry with the TBs. In areas of low humidity or in the
chill of an air-conditioned house, the seeds will dry faster than they
will in a humid garage or greenhouse. Bearded seeds should be
sufficiently dry in one month, I would think.
