Sounds reasonable to me, though I imagine the larger regions would
probably need several volunteers if voting is heavy.

More good ideas all around.

If the AIS Board can't assign duties, who can? There does need to be a
chain of command. AIS Board oversees and assigns work to the RVPs. RVPs
solicit and assign work to regional volunteers. And everyone works to
the benefit of AIS and its general membership. Isn't that how it's
supposed to work?

As long as you're asking (though I don't know how realistic you'll think
it is), I'd like to see the Popularity Poll ballot *exclusively*
write-in. As Walter noted, write-ins in previous ballots never received
enough votes to make it into the top 100. I venture to speculate that's
because many voters prefer to take the quick and easy way out by marking
pre-existing names on the ballot, even if some of those names really
aren't the irises they most admire. By eliminating all pre-existing
choices, voters will be left to search their minds, memories, and hearts
to identify the irises they truly believe to be their favorites. This,
in turn, will produce what I would consider the most valid "Popularity"
vote results possible.
That suggested, I would be happy to volunteer my services to tabulate
regional Popularity Poll write-in votes. That does, however, mean that I
wouldn't be available to edit more Check List pages during the period of
vote tallying, John. Even we volunteers only have 24 hrs in every day.
