YES!!!  That's exactly what I think too, but so far this suggestion has been
ignored or "written off" because of the work involved, or changed into
adding write-in votes to the ballot (which is then witten off because
"write-ins don't get enough votes anyway").  The added work could be
mitigated by reducing the votes to 10 favorites per person, possibly some
form of electronic voting, and/or eliminating iris without at least two
votes within a region from being turned in to add up for the final tally.  I
usually don't vote because my favorites aren't even on the list.  I hope the
"added work" required to vote would increase the voter response, because
people would care about the iris they were voting for, and votes from people
with definite opinions are the ones I want to see anyway.
