Re: CULT: fresh seeds vs waiting

Recently in the Sibrob List, Marty Sacks said they plant in cell
packs. The cell packs can be filled early and then left in the
garage to wait. I'd use the 4 cell pack, as the cell is a little
larger.

Most years I just sowed into the ground as I never had many seeds.

Last year I used mum pots, promix and set the pots into the
ground. I had received some Signa seeds. Both 2000 and 2001 seeds
within 2 months. Seeds from 2000 germinated in some cases at
80-95 percent. Seeds from 2001 did not! I attribute the failure to
the chill factor. Not enough cold as we had a warm winter and I was
counting on the weather to provide the chill.

This year I'll try cell packs. If it really gets cold I can bring
them into the garage. This would probably be only if the seeds had
sprouted. I have a 2X4 frame, maybe 3'X 6' with casters. This spring
I kept perennials on it and rolled them in and out as needed.
