Japanese Iris

Happy Iris People:

I have NEVER had such a stellar year of Japanese Iris bloom! The back yard
is simply ablaze and I'm tempted to dump some bearded iris to make room for
more JI's!

First of all, I had ANOTHER 'keeper' seedling bloom yesterday - the best yet!
So good that I could not believe it wasn't an introduced variety! A 3F
ruffled royal blue - petals so large they overlap. Those great grape
standards too. Branching not fabulous... but it DOES have one. The falls
stand out horizontally and the flower is giant! I just know some critter
will nail it this winter.

As for the introduced.... if you don't grow STATELY FLAMINGO, my condolences.
This JI is a sanded mauve with solid standards. 3F (I personally prefer the
3 fall, although I believe I'm in a minority). A very tall plant with a good
ratio of bloomstalks to foliage. Mine has been in the same spot for several
years and has gotten better each year!

McKENZIE SUNSET... a very ruffled light blue - 6F. Shot with white and a
very flat flower.

GRAND ISLAND... a large fluffy white... like a ballerina has landed in the
garden.

GEISHA MISCHIEF... this is a grape splashed white... with a blue halo around
the signal. One of my friends admired this one and I wish I had enough to
share. Also wish I could find her a source.... Ensata doesn't show it in
this year's catalog - anyone know of a source??

That's all for now from JI-ville
