Not far from here at Red Hill Plantation, P. Henry's old place (he's buried
there), stands a world-record Osage Orange, a magnificent spreading
specimen that has spent its entire 250 or so years in the open. It would
appear to be male; I've never seen any fruit on it.
There seems not to be any way of separating the male and female trees
before they flower. Then, the male trees produce flowers in long racemes,
while the female flowers appear in compact heads, followed by the strange
fruits.
