We in the Midwest have been seeing much more scorch this year than normal. I've seen a couple large gardens that were really devastated, and in my own garden I keep seeing different clumps being affected. I have wondered if the mild winter is in some way responsible for this unusually virulent (maybe the wrong word, given its derivation) outbreak. Anyway, relative to the treatment. I have heard of some folks who use the heat/baking treatment, but instead of the concrete driveway they just put the rhizomes in the oven and get the same effect. If true, that would tell us that it is not the sun but the heat. I have been using the driveway myself, but the burying which Donald has been describing is a second stage I have not used yet. I mean to try it; nothing ventured, nothing gained.
