My question to you would be however, why wouldn't you endorse it - not the
nicks but the root hormone? I would think if that toward the middle to end
of summer, the time the rhizome is supposed to come out of its semi-dormant
period and begin its second root-growth cycle, that if you gently dig the
soil out from the front and just underside of the rhizome and dusted it with
some root hormone, and then replaced the soil you dug away, that you could
possibly save it.
I do think I will try JIJ's suggestion on one of my next bloomouts, but will
also try the above sometime - unless you feel it will result in disaster?
