Here's another observation regarding bloomout. On all of my approx 250
guest rhizomes in my garden for this prior spring regional, over the recent
12 months I had noticed one thing in common about the rhizomes that had both
poor growth or bloomout. The rhizome was basically sitting on top of the
soil.
Several times I apologized to the rhizome(s) and grabbed the trowel to
scoop up more dirt around the rhizome, but invariably the rain or watering
on the gradual slope where the rhizome called home was enough to again place
it on top of the soil. Those that I discovered early enough in the year to
get them buried sufficiently seemed to put out a little growth, those that I
didn't discover until Spring warmth was well in progress, didn't seem to
recover, and as many of you have said, didn't put out much root growth.
