The MOST EXCITING plant in my garden this year is a versicolor-ensata
cross, NIGHT FLASH (Huber '98). The 3 petaled violet species like flower is
much larger than most versatas, up to 6" across! <<<
Nice to know NF can get this large. It and JOLIETTE are budded up and
should open in a day or two. ORIENTAL DOWN and MIRABELLE GLOW (my favorite
so far) just opened last evening and TOP PICK is on its 3rd bloom already.
It's interesting to compare these to each other and try to separate the
versicolor traits from those of the JI. DARK AURA is the only other thing
here (except possibly ROY DAVIDSON) that carries some versicolor and is
large enough to bloom.
I'm still hopeful that I. virginica alba decides to bloom so I'll have an
additional species to compare to all of these. (Was it ever decided whether
versicolor is a hybrid of virginica?)
